Order-Taker No More! Becoming a Trusted Business Advisor

The term, "order taker" makes many of us shudder. The world we live in is too complex to reduce our work down to a simple transaction that often fails to solve organizational problems. Without the desired solution, the learning experience we deliver becomes a "nice to have," effectively wasting time and resources of all those involved and dinging our credibility in the process. We long to create transformational experiences that truly make an impact. We know this is possible. We can envision it happening, yet we continue to be called upon to fill orders.  How do we get out of this cycle? The answer is in becoming a trusted business advisor. Someone who works with stakeholders as an equal, solving problems and infusing Learning & Development (L&D) into organizational strategy. Earned through influence, as opposed through a job description, any L&D professional can play this role, if they know how.
