    ND ATD Fall In-Person Conference

Effective evaluation and measurement of learning and development initiatives is critical to maximize the impact of training, identify skill gaps, and ensuring efforts are aligned to the organization’s needs.  Effective evaluation and measurement of learning and development initiatives is critical to maximize the impact of training, identify skill gaps, and ensuring efforts are aligned to the organization's needs. Demonstrating the value of your L&D department to senior leaders is a challenge we all face.

Learning and development professionals need to be able to tell a convincing story to not only show results but to secure future funding and staffing.  Unfortunately, this requires much more than producing a high ROI, which is, in itself, a challenge.

During our time together you will take away the critical steps necessary to demonstrate the value of a learning department, the importance of running learning like a business and establishing a close partnership with both the leadership and key stakeholders.

    10:30-11:00am: Registration and Social Networking

11:00am - 12:00pm: Keynote - Dave Vance: Demonstrating the Value of Your L&D Department

    12:00 - 1:00pm: Lunch

1:00 - 2:00pm: Dave Vance: A Closer Look at the Key Metrics Required to Demonstrate Success

    2:00 - 2:15pm: Break

2:15 - 3:15pm: How to Use What We Learned/Working Together Exercise

    3:15 - 3:30pm: Break

    3:30 - 4:30pm: Roundtable Discussions

     Facilitator: David Vance

David Vance is the Executive Director of the Center for Talent Reporting which is a nonprofit, membership-based organization dedicated to the creation and implementation of standards for human capital measurement.  He is the former President of Caterpillar University, which he founded in 2001. Prior to this position, Dave was Chief Economist and Head of the Business Intelligence Group at Caterpillar Inc.

Dave teaches in the Ph.D. programs at Bellevue University and the University of Southern Mississippi and in the executive education program at George Mason. He also serves on the Metrics Working Group for the International Organization for Standardization where he led the creation of the first standard on L&D metrics.

He is the author of The Business of Learning, now in its second edition, and co-author with Peggy Parskey of Measurement Demystified as well as the Measurement Demystified Field Guide.

This event qualifies for 3 SHRM credits.

The Modern Learning Mindset: Rethinking the Role of L&D in Today's Workplace

The pace of workplace change is downright ridiculous! Employees must contend with a never-ending stream of new processes, regulations, products and technologies. Meanwhile, companies struggle to close critical skill gaps that put their future growth at risk. On top of all of that, budgets are tightening as teams are asked to do more with less as the result of ongoing economic uncertainty.

How can we possibly keep up?!?! New technology is exciting, but it's not the answer. Great content is vital, but it's not the answer. Every successful workplace transformation begins in the same place: mindset. Join JD Dillion, Founder of LearnGeek and Chief Learning Officer at Axonify, for an exploration of the modern learning mindset. JD will show you what it takes to escape the course mentality, influence stakeholders to embrace new ideas and architect a workplace learning experience that fosters agility and drives results.

An organization can only transform as fast as its people can learn. Let's kickstart an L&D evolution to get people the help they need to do their best work today while developing the skills they'll need to be successful tomorrow.

    JD DIllon

    Chief Learning Officer - Axonify

    Founder and Principal - LearnGeek

He continues to apply his passion for helping people do their best work every day as Axonify's Chief Learning Officer and Founder of LearnGeek.

A respected author, keynote speaker and advisor, JD specializes in modern learning practices, including frontline enablement, microlearning, ecosystem strategy and AI-powered solutions. His new book, The Modern Learning Ecosystem, in a personal, practical, humorous take on the role L&D must play to build disruption-ready organizations.

Lead Change by Changing the Way You Lead

In today's ever-changing business landscape, adaptability matters more than ever. Leaders must embrace change and take risks, but the prospect of change can be daunting. In most organizations, change is over-managed and under-led, leading to a crippling disconnect between decision-makers and employees in the face of uncertainty. However, if managed correctly, change can be a prerequisite for success.

Leading change is essential for business development - and change is a constant state. If we want to create an environment where change is the organizational constant, leaders must change the way they lead. With Relationship Intelligence (RQ), leaders have the tools needed to prepare, equip, and support teams in embracing change so they can achieve a critical organizational outcome.

    During this session, we'll discuss:

    • How to link individual motives to change initiatives
    • Overcoming people's resistance to change
    • How to adjust communication styles everyone feels seen and heard during your change efforts.

    Michael Brown

    Master Facilitator

Michael Brown has spent over 10 years consulting, training, and implementing transformational leadership programs for senior-leaders at organizations such as Procter & Gable, Goodwill, and Hershey, to name a few. Michael is also an author, executive coach, and keynote speaker, addressing audiences from 50 to 2000 leaders.

To ensure he can meet the unique needs and business objectives of his clients, Michael is certified in several industry-leading programs and assessments, including the SDI2.0 and Core Strengths.

Michael holds a B.A. and a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall University. He is the author of Fellowship: Servant Leaders Serving Leaders, which helps managers quickly strengthen relationships with their team members to serve their growth and development. He also served as an Emotional Intelligence adjunct instructor at the University of Arkansas.

Michael makes divots in fairways in his spare time, tries to fly fish and mountain bikes- all while coaching his kids' world championship soccer teams (okay, they might not be world champions yet).
